[Full Post] Motorpsycho 2008 Hof ter Lo

Motorpsycho Hof Ter LoFor those of you who have missed the concert of Motorpsycho at  Hof ter Lo last Tuesday, that's a pity.

Before kicking off we had Creature with the Atom Brain, whose drummer and frontman are also involved in Millionaire, so somehow I had high hopes. While some of their songs definitely had something, I think either their mixer or their bass player had a real problem: the sound definitly lacked balls, with lots of aggressive high tones and almost no low. I didn't even notice they had a bass.

So after hearing this I was a bit scared that the equipment of the hall didn't really fit and that the same problem would arise with Motorpsycho.

Luckily, this wasn't the case.

Motorpsycho then. Much to my surprise they kicked off with a slightly modified version of 'Upstairs - Downstairs'  from the Let Them Eat Cake album. From then on it was a mixture of old and newer material, mostly from the albums Trust Us, Black Hole/Blank Canvas (Triggerman) and the latest Little Lucid Moments (The Alchemyst). Yes I even remember hearing a song from Timothy's Monster (Watersound). While songs like Triggerman and Mantrick Muffin Stomp sounded a bit odd sometimes and couldn't achieve the same result as on the album, others like the Alchemyst, Superstooge and No Evil just blew you away.

Two hours later we reached the end of the normal part, but of course this is Motorpsycho, so they came back and played the opening track from Little Lucid Moments that would last more than half an hour. It's on these tracks that you can really see their new drummer shine. Boy what a talent he is!

Then when you think it's over, MP has left the stage, and some of the audience have left the building, they return to play a magnificent version of Vortex Surfer.

There's no band like Motorpsycho. Sail on psychonauts!

UPDATE: here's the setlist:

  • Upstairs/Downstairs
  • Superstooge
  • No evil
  • Mantric Muffin Stomp
  • Sunship
  • Triggerman
  • Year Zero
  • Bedroom Eyes
  • Watersound
  • Taifun
  • HeartAttac Mac
  • Kill Devil Hills
  • The Alchemyst
  • Little Lucid Moments Suite
  • Vortex Surfer

The last three were definitely my favourite.

    Hi,

    thanks for your comment.

Yeah, the show had its sloppy moments, Snah's guitarplay was a bit off sometimes, but on the other hand his voice was very good and clear.

I took a look at your site, looks like it has some great stuff about MP, if only I could understand it ;-)

    Cheerz.

hi, Bert! i have no idea about their next European tour, but i told to Bent that MP should do the tour again in this year. because this spring tour was really great, even it couldn't drew many people like before, but words will spread, and next one is gonna bring much more. i really think so! let's see what is gonna happen. did you catch a news that MP will record with Steve Albini in USA?
