[version control] Git show current tag1
Let it be written for future reference.
All you really need to see if your current checked out branch is on a tag is
git describe [--tags]
Handy if you're using submodules that you've checked out on a specific release. Use the --tags option if there's no annotated tags but only lightweight ones.
Missed this in a few books and tutorials.
