[unfiled] Back in the virtual world

4

Hello again.

Looks like I made it into the new year with some fresh clothes for my website.

Most changes you won't see though: I abandoned my primitive cms and upgraded everything to Silverstripe with some custom code. Still needs some polishing, form-fixing ('naughty naughty silverstripe') and  waxing on a few spots plus a few extra features and enhancements, you'll see some corners still empty and unfinished.

Designwise I'm pretty satisfied with the basic colors I've got now. I absolutely wanted to keep the green tones in. I don't know why but I believe this earth-like army-green feels the most natural to me and reflects the most who I am. I absolutely don't fit in corporate blue and red is a bit too flashy. No, a moderate, simple and subtle green earthlike color suits me best. No fancy stuff.  Nonetheless some improvements are still needed.

Some of you might wonder why I'm not falling for Wordpress? Well, the answer is easy: I hate the fact that you're stuck with an inflexible system that is not written towards extending and only serves as a blog. That and everybody else is using Wordpress, so I'm pretty proud to be one of the few in Belgium to use this CMS from New - Zealand. And who doesn't love the country of Gollem?

The downside of this will be less 'plugins', but if necessary I can write these myself (that's what the framework is for), and possibly more bugs, as I don't think there are many Silverstripe-based blogs out there.

Furthermore I hope you've all enjoyed the pictures of my little trip to the French Vosges, where I had a great time away from the virtual world. In fact, there's nothing that I love more: being outside in the elements, making pictures of stunning landscapes. I'll hope to do that more this year.

Wish you all a good 2008 or 3420 or 4339439 or whatever timing you're counting in. Even if you don't do New Year's, like me, I still hope we'll learn from our mistakes and try to make this world a better place for everybody, not just for our own wallet. We need it.

If you find any bugs or errors on this site in the coming weeks, I'll be happy to hear from you.

Cheerz, and keep you posted.

    Thanks.

HTML-wise there are still lots of improvements possible, but the only ones who care about that are freaks anyway, and in the end the importance of all this is almost zero to nihil, looking at what else is going on in the world. :-)

I'm also planning to keep the posts on here scarce and at least a bit interesting. No more whining about myself, no more pseudo-tech stuff. Either a complete post about something, whether entertaining or technical or 'awaring', or nothing at all. At least that's what I want to. (How this will turn out in reality will be a different thing.) :-)
